Trade-In Lowball
A trade-in offer is easier to judge when you have outside appraisals. Check the vehicle price, fees, and financing separately so a change elsewhere does not hide the full cost.
Make the Trade Stand on Its Own
What this means
A trade offer is one buyer's appraisal of your vehicle on that day. It may differ from other offers because of condition, demand, reconditioning, inventory, and business needs. Get multiple written appraisals and negotiate the new vehicle, trade, and financing as separate numbers.
What to do now
Check: Uncompetitive trade offer
Will they only discuss the net monthly payment?
Demand separate written figures. Leave if the dealer will not isolate purchase price, trade value, payoff, and financing or if your outside offer is stronger after verified costs.
Written Appraisals
Use current offers with the same mileage and condition disclosures. Bring the full terms, not a screenshot of one number.
Payoff Is Separate
Trade value minus verified loan payoff shows equity or negative equity. Do not let the payoff change the appraisal itself.
Keep Your Exit
Retain your documents, spare key, and outside options. You can sell separately if that verified comparison works better.
